Why Coatings Pros Need the Rapid RH L6 Concrete Moisture Testing System

Datamaster-L6Applying any type of coating over a concrete slab that isn’t sufficiently dry can be disastrous. Excess moisture can collect under the coating and cause blistering and delamination. This can mean expensive remediation work for you and possible damage to your reputation.

You can’t tell if a slab is dry enough to receive a coating just by looking at it. While the slab is drying, there’s typically less moisture at the surface than deeper down, due to evaporation. If a coating gets applied when there’s too much moisture inside the slab, that moisture will eventually migrate to the surface, interact with the coating, and cause serious problems. That’s why it’s critical to use a concrete moisture test that’s not just assessing surface moisture.

The most useful, reliable way to test for moisture is the relative humidity (RH) test using in situ probes. In 2002, the in situ RH test was standardized as ASTM F2170, providing guidelines for properly performing the test. Shortly after that, Wagner Meters applied these guidelines in its development of the Rapid RH® system, which has become the leading choice for accurate, economical testing of concrete moisture in full compliance with ASTM F2170.

Now Wagner Meters has introduced the all-new Rapid RH L6 system. As before, the L6 system employs single-use RH sensors for speed, low cost, and ease of use. Once installed in the slab and equilibrated, there’s no need to move sensors from location to location and wait for them to equilibrate again. Repeat readings can always be taken without additional equilibration time. And unlike reusable probes, the L6 sensors never need calibration.

What really sets the Rapid RH L6 system apart is the new level of data integrity that it brings to RH testing. The system pairs L6 sensors with the Total Reader® which reads, displays and transmits data wirelessly to your mobile device via Bluetooth®.

Add the free Rapid RH DataMaster™ L6 app, and you’ll never need to manually enter your test data. The DataMaster L6 app stores, displays and reports the data right on your iOS or Android mobile device.

Backup copies of all readings are stored in a memory chip that’s inside every L6 sensor permanently installed in the slab. An unbroken digital path from the sensor to the final report, plus automatic data backup, ensures complete accuracy, security, and peace of mind.
